The game of Blackjack is really simple: you have to obtain a higher total than the dealer but not over 21. The dealer is your only opponent in the game even if other players are present at the table.
When playing Blackjack you do not have many options. You need to carefully look at your cards and the dealers. Do not forget, if you have more than 21 you bust and if you bust you lose.

How the game is played:

1. A card is dealt; face up, to each player in turn and then one to the dealer. The dealers card is face down and called the hole card.
2. A second card is then dealt, again face up, to each player.
3. Starting from the player to the left of the dealer, each player decides whether to draw further cards.
4. After all players have completed their hands, the Dealer proceeds to draw cards to complete the Dealers hand.

To win:

• You have to have a higher total than the dealer.
• The dealer must have more than 21 or busts (thats if you have not previously busted yourself).

If you and the dealer have the same total it is called a stand-off and you neither win nor lose.

Values of the Cards

In Blackjack cards are valued as follows:

• Jack, Queen and King are all valued as 10 points.
• An Ace can count as either 1 or 11 points, the owner of the hand decides
• All other cards have their numerical face value.

Jokers are not used when playing Blackjack.

What is a Blackjack?

A blackjack is an Ace and any ten-valued card with your first two cards. It pays one and a half times your bet unless the dealer also draws Blackjack, in which case you have a stand-off.

How the Dealer Plays His Hand

The dealer has limited options. If his hand has a total of 16 or less, he must choose another card. He must stand (not pick any more cards) if his hand totals 17 or more.

A Split

When you are dealt a matching pair of cards, you have the ability to split the hand into three separate hands. Aces may be split to form only two hands. You will receive an additional card for each hand; however a wager equal to your original bet must be placed each time you split.

Casino rules are not the same when it comes to splitting hands, ask your dealer first.

Doubling Down
You may double your bet (not more than your original bet) if your first two cards total 9, 10 or 11 (without aces). You will be dealt one additional card when you double.
Again, casino rules are not the same so ask your dealer.
